Vietnamese-American Hung Cao is a Viet kieu who’s family left Vietnam in April 1975 and settled in the U.S. When he was a young boy he arrived in America and could not speak english language yet he has now risen to challenge for one of the highest level political offices. If he wins, it will be the highest level of political office held by viet kieu yet. Below we provide some more information about Mr. Hung’s personal story and details of his political life.
Mr. Hung Cao is a candidate for U.S. Senator from the state of Virginia, or what they call the ‘Commonwealth of Virginia’ which is one of the original 13 states from the founding of America. Virginia has a large viet kieu population and Mr. Hung feels very confident that he can win the state-wide contest to represent Virginia in the U.S. Senate, the most prestigious part of Congress.
Cao background: Retired Navy Captain Hung Cao came to the United States as a refugee from Vietnam in 1975. Hung moved to Virginia as a child and enrolled in local school even though he could not speak English. He was commissioned as a Special Operations Officer from the United States Naval Academy, and served with special operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia. Hung’s non-combat assignments included working at the Pentagon, Homeland Security, and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. Hung received his Masters degree in physics from the Naval Postgraduate School, and fellowships at MIT and Harvard. He and his wife April are the parents of five beautiful children.
Cao, who is a 25-year Navy veteran endorsed by former President Trump, has very strong views on how the U.S. can rebuild and maintain it’s strong military which has recently been criticized for promoting DEI programs that also include transsexual strippers. He’s doubling down on his controversial comments made during last week’s debate about U.S. military personnel “who are going to rip out their own guts, eat them and ask for seconds” in a bid against progressive social training in the military. Cao said “It’s about warriors that are just going to do anything to win, and those are the people we need.”
Cao faces a difficult challenge though as Virginia has consistently voted for Democrats in the recent elections. Political experts say his path to victory is narrow, given Virginia’s moderate electorate, aversion to Trump in 2020 and Kaine’s salience with voters, according to the Associated Press. However, it looks like former President Donald Trump is surging in the polls as the preferred candidate and Trump has endorsed Cao which may be very helpful for Cao to win.
